Make Mother’s Day more meaningful this year and surprise your mom with a beautiful floral arrangement to brighten up her day. Instead of ordering one online, make the sentiment more personalised with an arrangement of your own. Here’s our step-by-step guide on how to organise your blooms to impress mom by professional floral designer, Gemma Hayden Blest.
Step 1: Gather your materials
Collect together a selection of faux/silk flowers and a pair of cutters that will snip through the central wire in their stems. Where possible, always try to bend the stems instead of cutting so you can reuse them.
Step 2: Create a base with greenery
Cut or bend the greenery into short pieces to form a full base, and insert into the container at differing angles to create a bed for the flowers to sit. To create a really fresh, natural look, make sure this isn't symmetrical.
Step 3: Position your largest flowers
Take your largest flower, in this case the camellias, and position them into the foliage base, leaving equal spacing between each.
Step 4: Add some smaller flowers
Use the smaller flower to soften the spacing of the larger flowers. Add one or two next to each of the larger blooms.
Step 5: Fill up gaps with sprigs of berries
Lastly, insert a sprig of berries into any gaps. If there aren't any obviously gaps, these can be used to sit against the foliage to add some colour.
Step 6: All done!
It’s time to admire your masterpiece from all angles. Don’t forget to also attach a heartfelt card for mom!
